Strong cargo demand limits voided sailings for Golden Week holiday

October will be the first month since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus when carriers will adjust their capacity both due to the pandemic and a national holiday in China. It appears that most of the blanked sailings are related to the Golden Week holiday (first week of October) as they are concentrated in the first half of the month.
The 2M will blank only three sailings in the Transpacific: one voyage each on Asia-USEC, Asia-PSW and Asia-PNW.
THE Alliance will cancel four Asia-USEC and five Asia-USWC departures.
while the OCEAN Alliance announced on 2 September that it would void nine Transpacific sailings, of which eight would be between 3 and 10 October. Six out of nine sailings have meanwhile been restored and the last OCEAN Alliance announcement of today 15 September now only shows five Transpacific sailings withdrawn in October.
Strong cargo demand still pushes rates on the market. The average rate between Shanghai and Los Angeles/Long Beach reached another record level last week.
